Tampa Bay strolled past the Rams with points to spare last week, taking the contest 55-40. With that win, the Buccaneers brought their scoring average up a tier to 30.75 ppg.

Meanwhile, New Orleans fell to Dallas 13-10 when the two teams last met in November of last year; this time around, they exacted some revenge. New Orleans narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past Dallas 12-10. The success made it back-to-back wins for the Saints.

Their wins bumped the Buccaneers to 2-2 and the Saints to 3-1. A pair of defensive stats to keep an eye on: The Buccaneers enter the matchup with only 59.30 rushing yards allowed per game on average, good for best in the league. Less enviably, the Saints are third worst in the NFL in rushing touchdowns allowed, with 6 on the season.

NFL 2018 – 2019 First month review: NFL season has just reached its quarter mark with the wrap of week 5 last weekend.

At the conclusion of Monday Night Football game this past Monday, 30 out of 32 teams in the league have completed their quarter of the regular season.
As for the predictions before the season, it is mixed results in terms of meeting the expectations.

The New York Jets weren’t supposed to open strong; however, they surprised many by doing so. On the other hand, the Los Angeles Rams stood by the plan and have been playing well and winning.

On the disappointing side, the defending champions, Philadelphia Eagles are 2-2 after four weeks in and should be thankful to achieve even that.
With just under .500 record so far, we can see teams such as Pittsburgh Steelers and Minnesota Vikings who both are trying to figure out how to resolve this losing situation.
Entering the 2018 NFL season, total of 10 teams in the league in addition to the New England Patriots were marked as prospects contenders to win the Super Bowl.
Some teams in this list, such as the Minnesota Vikings have come short so far to meet the expectations while others like the New England Patriots have been relatively stable by now in spite of some major concerns that have surfaced.

Cincinnati Bengals are at impressive 3-1 record so far although their defense has not performed as expected. In spite of playing three games on the road they have managed to average 31.5 points a game and did it in a remarkable way showing toughness. Best exhibition of it could be seen during last Sunday game when they rallied to defeat the Falcons in Atlanta.

The Baltimore Ravens look good so far lead by quarterback Joe Flacco who has reminded his 2012 performance the season in which the Ravens won the championship. Ravens are 3-1 after week 4, mainly thanks to the reliable and consistent defense which yielded 65 points so far, second only to the Jacksonville Jaguars.

The off-season trade of Khalil Mack coming from Oakland made a huge impact on the Chicago Bears performance so far this season, resulting in reassessed probability of 78.5 percent of them making the playoffs. Their biggest asset is the defense which has been the key factor in their 3-1 record at the end of the first month. The defense is currently in top form and there is no reason it won’t stay there as club managed to collect very special and talented defensive players during the off-season.
The last high score of 48 points against the Buccaneers should not set the bar for future coming as it was against a confused and indifferent team which doesn’t know its way at the moment.
With that being said, no credit should be taken away from the impressive stat of six touchdowns passes by the young quarterback Mitch Trubisky.
The real test time will be during winter time, during which the Bears turned downtrodden in recent years.

With six games ahead against teams that are inferior to them, at least on paper, the Oakland Raiders have a chance to turn things around given the poor start.
All these six teams have not made the playoffs last season. With that being said, the Raiders will have to come up with much better performance on the field and play in higher level in order to be a major contender in the AFC west.

In light of the top performance by quarterback C. J. Beathard against the Chargers in which he accomplished 298 passing yards which resulted in two touchdowns, it is well noticeable that he has matured in year two of coach Kyle Shanahan’s offense. That comes after partially struggling last season as a starter.
He also had two turnovers in the game which ended up to be costly; however, overall, the 49ers were competitive all along the match. Given last season’s poor losing season this is a development that the 49ers can be happy about for now.

After a bad opening of the season, with two consecutive loses the Detroit Lions came back high to beat the Patriots at week 3. It was with no doubt an unexpected impressive win which planted some hope in their fans that things were turning around.
Then in followed week 4 it seemed like the winning streak continued when they were just a bit short to beat the Dallas Cowboys in Dallas. However, the Lions’ defense failed to keep the weak Cowboys offense from making the last game-winning kick position which eventually cost them the game. They were just close enough to prevent it from quarterback Dak Prescott to drive that play. The main concern that arises from this loss is the low key performance by the Lions’ defense which resulted in allowing the Cowboys over 400 yards which was way over their average of well under 300 a game till then in the season. And all of that given the stat that the Lions defense came to this game as number 7 seeded in allowable yards. The Lions failed in containing Cowboys tailback Ezekiel Elliot.

Two times so far this season, the Cleveland Browns finished a game in overtime. The first one which took place against the Pittsburgh Steelers in week 1 would be considered by many as a moral victory. The second time was in week 4 and that was a different story. That was a devastating course of events which included blowing a 14-point lead in the second half and an eight-point lead in the final minutes, all this against the Oakland Raiders who were without any wins at that point.
In his first-ever NFL start, quarterback Baker Mayfield had a mixed performance with a downside outcome. His mistakes were two interceptions and two fumbles. Along with his teammates they had too many defensive lapses, 9 dropped passes which led to too many turnovers, all same mistakes that were Browns’ typical in recent years.
That being said, Mayfield gave quite impressive performance on the road as he managed to throw for 295 yards and two touchdowns. So all in all he is not much to be complained about. He put the Browns in a winning position on the road.

The Dallas Cowboys showed terrible offense in the first three week of the season, which resulted in disappointing record of 1-2. They had been averaging low number of 145 passing yards a game coming into week 4. Then at week 4 against the Lions things seemed to be different when Dak Prescott threw for 255 yards and two touchdowns. Tailback Ezekiel Elliott had a strong game on his own rushing 240 yards in total and one touchdown, definitely a game for him to remember. That was a must win for the Dallas entering this game as another lose could be leading to an early downturn of their all season. That being said, the Cowboys should make this game as a blueprint moving forward in the season, mainly in the way it was played – Setting up a play action through persistent attack on the ground.
